Wednesday's HOME Meet Info
July 14th
Greetings, Express families!
Wednesday is our last home meet of the season. We will be hosting Fox Point! Here are a few tips, reminders, and a timeline to be aware of.
- Our team sets up on the far side of the pool nearest the train tracks. We will have some deck chairs available, but we ask that you bring camp chairs if you have them. Some families also choose to bring pop-up canopies.
- Please bring plenty of towels, sunscreen and water. Families with younger children also may wish to bring books or toys (i.e. legos, crayons, etc.) to keep them occupied as there is down time between events.
- Swim meets run late! Barring any weather delays meets typically run past 10:00. Please do not leave before your events have been completed! If for any reason you are not able to stay and complete your events, please let someone before you leave!
- The concession stand will be open during the meet and will offer burgers, hot dogs, pizza, etc., but you are also welcome to bring a cooler.
- The events list will be posted during practice; however, it will also be posted at the back corner of the pool near the deep end just prior to the meet. Even if you get your events at practice, it’s a good idea to check the final board to make sure nothing was changed before the meet starts.
- The Clerk of Course station will be under the stairs that lead up to the deck, near the bathrooms. (For families new to swimming, the Clerk of Course is where swimmers will report prior to their events. Our older swimmers will help younger swimmers find their way to and from the Clerk of Course.)
- The forecast for that night looks clear; however, if there is thunder and/or lightning, the lifeguards will ask everyone to clear the pool deck and wait in their cars. We will keep everyone updated via email and Facebook. If any storms persist, there is a possibility that the meet will be called for the evening, in which case we will swim the remaining events on Thursday night. (If there is rain but no thunder or lightning, the meet will continue so long as the rain is not too heavy, and visibility is not affected.)
- Volunteering is not only critical, it is also required for families participating in the meet. There are many different types of positions we need filled. If you have not signed up to volunteer, please do so here. Job sign-ups have been opened for ALL regular meets this year. You may also contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Elsa Palomo at [email protected] if you have questions about any of the positions. She will assign people for positions if no one has signed up. Finally, if you are the parent of an older swimmer, please consider volunteering for the second half of the meet so parents of younger swimmers may leave after their first half obligations are complete. Volunteers, please check in with Elsa/Jacki/Jennifer upon arrival to get your name tag and so she may know that you are on deck.
Here is a rough time line of events prior to the kick off of the meet:
- 3:30 pm - Volunteers are needed to help clear the pool deck, set up the concession stand and Clerk of Course areas. Any and all help is appreciated! (Please note, the pool does not close to the community until 4:00, so we work around any member still using the pool.)
- 4:00 pm - Pool officially closes to the community.
- 4:05 pm - Visiting team is allowed to enter the pool area and set up.
- 4:45 pm - Leeland Express warm-ups begin.
- 5:15 pm - Visiting team warm-ups begin.
- 5:45 pm - First half Timer’s meeting called to distribute stop watchers and receive lane assignments. Other first half volunteers asked to make their way to their stations.
- 6:00 pm - National Anthem and the meet begins!
That’s all for now. Please let me know if you have any questions. Go fast! Go Express!
Jennifer
